Imphal, June 2: The Indian Army and Assam Rifles intensified rescue and relief operations in flood-affected regions of Manipur on the second day of Operation Jal Rahat 2, evacuating more than 500 civilians from submerged localities across Imphal East and West districts.

According to official reports, the rescue efforts focused on severely inundated areas such as Wangkhei, Heingang, Lamlong, Khurai, JNIMS and Ahallup. A total of 10 dedicated flood relief columns were deployed by the Army for the mission.

One of the critical interventions came in Thoubal district, where Army engineers conducted emergency repairs on the breached boundary wall of the Iril River near Arapti Lamkhai in Lilong to prevent further flooding and structural damage in adjoining areas.

At JNIMS Hospital, Army boats were seen ferrying stranded patients to safer zones. Timely medical evacuation ensured that critical patients continued receiving care despite the disruption in public movement and services.

Beyond evacuation, the Army also extended humanitarian aid. Nearly 800 bottles of drinking water along with other essential supplies were distributed among displaced families who have taken shelter in temporary relief centres.

The Army’s Eastern Command shared visuals of the operations via its official handle, reaffirming its commitment to civilian safety during natural disasters.

With the monsoon intensifying across the northeast, local authorities have issued advisories for low-lying areas and urged residents to cooperate with ongoing evacuation and repair operations.
